Matt talks with Dr. Amendt-Radueg about remnants, old stories, and the history of ghosts from vague shades to actual things that go bump in the night.
Dr Amy Amendt-Raduege teaches literature at the University of Western Washington in Bellingham, WA. Her focus is on medieval literature and culture, ghost stories, science fiction and fantasy, and all things Tolkien. Her first book, “The Sweet and the Bitter”: Death and Dying in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, won the 2020 Mythopoeic Society Award for Inklings Studies. She absolutely promises that she will get the follow-up completed soon, along with another monograph focusing on the progression of ghosts from solid revenants to incorporeal spirits. When not writing or teaching, Amy can be found playing with her two miniature schnauzers, spending time with her family, or finding other ways to cause chaos.
This episode featured music by Matthew Armstrong and production assistance from Kaylia Metcalfe.
